*If Sheriff is Goliath, He Has Met His David, Says Fani-Kayode

By Ibidapo Balogun

Amid growing opposition to his emergence, former Borno State governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff assumed office on Monday as Peoples Democratic Party National Chairman at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.

The former acting Chairman Uche Secondus handed over to him, asking him to carry the youths along.

Sheriff took over on a day the Board of Trustees of the party again rejected his election as PDP chairman.

Addressing a news conference in Abuja, the acting Chairman of the board, Alhaji Walid Jibrin, said Sheriff is not ideal as PDP chairman.

Taking over the mantle of leadership at the brief ceremony at the party’s secretariat Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, Sheriff said his task was to reach out to all aggrieved PDP members including those who had left the party.

Sheriff said he would not resign his appointment.

He said no court of all in the country had found him culpable as Boko Haram founder, saying this time round, all those calling him Boko Haram sponsor would not go scot free.

Among those who had openly labelled Sheriff Boko Haram founder is former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode.

Sheriff said he would go to the law court over the allegation, saying specifically that  Fani-Kayode would face the music.

But Fani-Kayode quickly responded, saying he could not be intimidated and that he was ready for Sheriff at the court.

The former Aviation Minister, in a statement made available to Channels Television, said he is amused by the Senator’s threat and he is waiting with baited breath for his actions.

Fani-Kayode who is a member of the PDP and one of the party leaders who are unhappy with the process, which brought Sheriff up as the new PDP national chairman, criticised the emergence of the former governor, raising allegations of Sheriff’s alleged link with the Boko Haram sect

The former minister said: “We are more than ready to meet Senator Ali Modu Sheriff in court. It would be a pleasure to expose him for what he is. The days of intimidating, silencing and threatening others are long over.

“If Sheriff is a Goliath, let him be rest assured that he has finally met his David. Needless to say we stand by everything that we have said,” he added
