Anisulowo Abduction Update: IG Deploys 2 Helicopters for Search


Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has deployed two police helicopters for the search and rescue of former Minister of State for Education, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, who was kidnapped by some unknown gunmen on Sawonjo/Imasayi Road, in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Anisulowo was abducted on Wednesday while returning from her farm in Igbogila. She was in the Senate representing Ogun West Senatorial district between 2003 and 2007.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement said the two choppers arrived the state on Saturday and had been patrolling suspected kidnappers’ hideouts within the state with search parties.


He said the search parties included the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command Lagos,AIG Bala Hassan, Commissioner of Police Ogun State, CP Abdulmajid Ali, Commander 35 Artillery Brigade, Brig.Gen. S Danwalis,Director,Department of State Security, Ogun State, and Mr. Kabir Sanni, among others.

“The Ogun State Police Commissioner, who spoke on behalf of the team, assured that the kidnapped former Senator will soon be rescued unhurt and culprits apprehended as every officer of the command and members of the search team had been having restless nights since the day of the incident,” he said.

Meanwhile, the family of the kidnapped former Minister of state for Education had debunked the reports by a few sections of the media that the abductors had demanded for N200 million ransom.

A younger brother of the kidnapped Senator, Kola Popoola, who spoke with Vanguard on Phone said, the media report was not true.

He said as at the time of speaking with Vanguard correspondent around 4p.m., the kidnappers had yet to contact the family, describing the report as a mere rumour.
