The Onikoko area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Friday witnessed another gas explosion barely 24 hours after a similar incident at the premises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL).
Two persons were serious injured in the explosion, which shook the premises of a construction company, CSCC.
The trigger, it was learnt, was a cylinder filled with gas, which exploded, even when it was not in use.
Many buildings along the Onikoko-Adigbe axis were affected by the explosion.
The Commissioner for Special Duties, Barrister Femi Ogunbanwo, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, and other officials of the state, visited the scene of the accident for on the spot assessment.
Abeokuta has recorded four domestic gas explosions in the last two weeks with about 10 deaths and scores injured.
Explosions have been recorded at Oke-Igbore, Onikolobo, Conference Hotel, belonging to Otunba Gbenga Daniel and the OOPL.
Adulterated domestic gas have been identified as the major cause of the explosions, even as residents of the city have been urged to among other, purchase/refill their gas cylinders from certified and authorized merchants, check out their cylinder for leakage through either the valve, regulator, connecting hose, or the cooking burner and replace the cylinder if it is already expired.
