The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress party (APC) Thursday accused the opposition party in the state, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) of fuelling crisis within the party
The party said it has evidence to show that some of their leaders in the South who are dissatisfied with the outcome of the just concluded ward congress, are being given juicy offers by the PDP.
This is coming just as the state Interim Publicity Secretary of APC, Comrade Godwin Erhahon in a statement Thursday said the party has cancelled its ward congresses held throughout all seven local government areas of Edo South Senatorial district on Tuesday and rescheduled same for Saturday, April 12.
But the PDP Publicity Secretary, Matthew Urhoghide in a swift reaction also Thursday blasted the leadership and members of the APC in the state, describing the party as a kindergarten party which is fraught with internal strife and which foundation is ready to crumble.
According to Erhahon: “A meeting of stakeholders of APC in the Senatorial District presided over by Comrade Governor Adams Oshiomhole with national leaders, Chief Tom Ikimi and Chief John Oyegun resolved to cancel the exercise last night after considering all complaints by the various contending factions.
“This painful decision was taken in the interest of peace, fair-play and above all, in the spirit of democracy to which APC is committed.”
The party leadership alleged that “APC is aware of attempts by the PDP to infiltrate its ranks through the congress.”
The leadership further said the party is particularly monitoring a purported PDP deal with one of its factions in Edo South whose leader PDP has been promised a Senatorial ticket for himself, UBTH Chief Medical Director for his wife and lucrative role in Jonathan/Sambo Campaign Organization under which some of his supporters have been shortlisted for different assignments, if the outcome of the congress does not favour his governorship ambition in APC.
However, reacting Urhoghide insisted: “PDP in Edo state has nothing do with APC ward congresses; it is not interested in the minute of what is happening in the APC. We are not gratifying the party neither are we ascribing credibility to what APC members are doing in their congresses. It is not our business.
“APC is a house divided and fraught with internal strife and waiting to crumble. PDP has no business with whoever in APC with governorship ambition talk less of giving position to anybody for a post at the UBTH.”
He added: “The PDP is more of an elitist party than the APC which is kindergarten gathering of deadwoods and bunch of confused people.”
