Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has been appointed as the Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) Board of Trustees (BOT).
Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu was the first civilian governor of Abia State and former Chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, one of the legacy parties that formed the APC.
Onus appointment came in the wake of the Supreme Court’s judgement in the Ondo State Governorship Election which had sent shock waves into the APC hierarchy.
In a split verdict of 4-3 Justices, the apex court upheld Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s election. But the three justices in a minority judgment questioned the position of Yobe State Governor Mai Buni as Chairman caretaker Committee of the party, which is in breach of Section 183 of the 1999 Constitution.
Though provided for in its constitution, the matter of appointment of Board of Trustees had been stalled since the inception of APC in 2014.
