APC Caretaker Panel Reaches Wits’ End as State Chairmen Seek Convention

The Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni-led National Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) may have reached its wits’ end in its bid to extend its tenure once again.

The Forum of State Chairmen of the ruling APC on Thursday called on the committee to conduct Congresses and convene the National Convention within the time frame given by the National Executive Committee (NEC) last December.

The Caretaker Committee which had benefitted from an initial six months extension is seeking another one when there is little on the ground to show its working on the mandate given to prepare grounds for another convention.

Some APC members ostensibly prompted by the caretaker committee had protested at the party secretariat on Tuesday seeking an extension of the membership registration/revalidation exercise.

This demand is a euphemism for an extension of the tenure of the caretaker committee.

The forum also appealed for an extension of the membership registration and revalidation exercise, which ended officially on March 31, 2021 nationwide.

Addressing newsmen after the forum’s meeting, which lasted for almost two hours in Abuja, the chairman, and Borno Caretaker Committee chairman, Hon. Ali Buka Dalori, said: “We urgently call for: the immediate conduct of Congresses and convening of the National Convention; and to allow for completion of all other tasks assigned to CECPC (by NEC) within the time frame.”
