The All Progressives Congress has defended its decision in respect of the party’s governorship primaries for Osun West.
The party in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, condemned media reports on the meeting of its National Working Committee on the issue.
The party’s NWC had at the meeting rescinded the disqualification of Senator Mudashiru Hussein from contesting for the primaries.
Osun West Senatorial seat had become vacant following the death on April 23 of Senator Isiaka Adeleke.
In a statement entitled ‘Re: APC Screening And Appeal Committee Report For Osun West Senatorial Election Rerun’, APC said: “The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to a false media report on the meeting of the Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) that held on Monday 12 June, 2015, to discuss the report of the Party’s Screening and Appeal Committee for the Osun Senatorial election primaries of the APC.
“The Party states for the record that the media report is not a true account of what transpired at the meeting.
“At no time did the Party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun say any of those statements that were attributed to him in the report. The NWC takes full responsibility for the decision it took on the matter and will not seek to transfer this responsibility to anyone else outside the national executive of the party. Allegations that the NWC was pressured to act in the manner that it did should therefore be disregarded”.
