The Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended Zamfara State from the nationwide party congresses, scheduled to begin on July 31.
This was made known by Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe, National Secretary of CECPC in a letter dated 27th July, 2021, which was sent to the Zamfara State caretaker chairman of the party.
The letter, titled: “Exemption from participating in the schedules party congresses”, noted that the decision to exempt the state from participating in the congresses was due to recent development in the party in the state.
It would be recalled that Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, in late June defected to the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP, along with senators, members of the House of Representatives as well as those of the House of Assembly and other officials.
The letter reads: “I write to convey the resolution of the CECPC reached at its meeting of 12th July 2021 to exempt Zamfara State from participating in the nationwide party congresses scheduled to commence from 31st July, 2021.
Above decision was reached following recent development in the state chapter of the party and to allow for membership registration and revalidation exercise to hold.
“Accordingly, a new date will be fixed for the Congresses to be conducted in the state.”
