President Muhammadu Buhari will on Friday meet with the Mai Mala Buni-led National Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting has been slated for 10am.
Westernpost learnt that the national convention of the ruling party is expected to dominate discussion at the meeting.
A source told Westernpost that modalities for the party’s state congresses and the national convention will come up for discussion.
It would be recalled that the party’s Caretaker /Extra-ordinary National Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), after Buhari’s interview on Arise TV, had released the date for the congresses but was silent on the convention.
The Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Atiku Bagudu, who is also the governor of Kebbi State had after a meeting of the APC governors in Abuja recently, said President Buhari would soon set a date for the ruling party’s convention.
The National Secretary of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of the party, Sen. John Akpanudoedehe, had earlier said that the committee would consult President Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, governors and other major stakeholders of the party before taking any decision on the national convention.
The Committee has also been accused of trying to perpetuate itself in the office by postponing the state congresses and the national convention.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party at its last meeting in December, last year gave the Mai Mala Buni led Caretaker Committee till 30th of June to conduct congresses and the National Convention for the election of new leaders to run the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
