The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) has picked a running mate for its governorship candidate, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, ahead of the deadline for substitution of candidates for the September 22 election.
Benedict Alabi, from Ikire in Osun West Senatorial District, was confirmed as the party’s deputy govenrorship candidate for next month’s election.
The choice of Alabi means Iwoland where agitation for the governorship this time round was fiercest has also lost out in the Number 2 slot.
Alabi contested the party’s primaries and lost to Oyetola and following his defeat, he began working to advance Oyetola’s interest in the race.
The APC governorship running mate hails from the same senatorial district as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ademola Adeleke, and his nomination may help divide Adeleke’s votes in the senatorial district..
