Leading a team of 280 LAWMA’s sweepers to the Mile 2 area of the state, Ola Williams was seen cleaning, sweeping and digging out dirt that had accumulated on the road for several years.

Speaking with WESTERN POST Correspondent, she said her decision to take up the responsibility of cleaning the state is borne out of the love and commitment she has for the people of Lagos State.

As a loyal supporter and political daughter of APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Iron Lady said she is ready to do more for the present administration.

“We are all children of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and I am a supporter of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and I will continue to support him to make sure that Lagos is clean, Lagos is Safe and Lagos is better for everyone to stay in,” Ola Williams said.

She said while the management of LAWMA under the leadership of Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin had been putting in the expected work and successfully cleaning the state, some people are deliberately trying to sabotage the efforts of LAWMA by deliberately dropping refuse on the roads and gutters, which is posing great danger to the people of the state.

This act she stressed would no longer be tolerated and allowed to continue unabated.

For 3 weeks and still counting, Iron Lady and her team of LAWMA’s Sweepers have had their hand dipped in dirt, cleaning, digging and sweeping the roads.

The woman leader said so far, she is happy at what she and her team had been able to achieve within the period of the lockdown.

‘I don’t want any resident to be affected by Coronavirus or contact any form of infectious disease as a result of dirt on our streets and on our roads. As a woman leader, this will not happen under my watch. And that is why we are coming out en-mass to do this job.

“We want good living and good health for our children, husbands and for the people of Lagos State and this is exactly what the MD of LAWMA wants for the good people of Lagos State,” Ola Williams said.

Describing the LAWMA MD as a man of strong character and vision, Ola Williams said when Gbadegesin identified the need to clean up Mile 2, she readily volunteered her service because she knows the MD  supports what Tinubu stands for and is working for the betterment of the state.

“Take a good look at this place now, you will know that in Lagos we are not playing. LAWMA is working, our MD, Dr. Gbadegesin, is really working because he is a true son of his father, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. LAWMA’s MD has been schooled and well trained by our National Leader and Father, Tinubu and I must commend Dr. Gbadegesin because he is doing a remarkable job,” Ola Williams said.

However, she regretted the attitudes of people who practice indiscriminate waste disposal in the state.

‘This place is Mile 2 up and down and people also call this area Tokunbo Mile 2. The people selling cars in this area and also the tanker drivers have turned this place into a dustbin. They are not taking good care of this place and this is where they get their daily bread to feed their families but they have completely defaced this area with refuse,’ Ola Williams said.

Expressing her concerns that such act if left unchecked would return the area to the state it was before the clean-up began, Ola Williams called on the governor of Lagos State to station task force across the area.

She said the government should also initiates talks with the association of tanker drivers and also the association of Tokunbo car sellers, all in a bid to find a lasting solution to the issue of waste management and disposal in the Mile 2 area of the state.
