… Declares Support For TOP In Osun
The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, said progressives must not allow the All Progressives Congress (APC) to go the way of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
Aregbesola, who is the immediate past Governor of Osun State, said everything must be done to make the ruling party more formidable in future elections.
He spoke on Friday, when members of Osun Progressives (TOP), paid him Sallah visit.
He used the opportunity to declare support for the desire of the Osun Progressives (TOP) to re-energize the APC in Osun State.
He said it is essential to take all reasonable steps to redirect the Osun APC as a progressive party to a worthwhile path in view of its recent history.
The minister recalled the state of inertia of the AD in 2003 and the strenuous efforts it took in revamping, re-energizing and re-awaking the party to become an election winner in 2007, warning that such experience should not be the lot of APC, which he described as a successor to the AD in the progressives political camp.
The minister attributed the successful turnaround of the fortunes of AD to God and dynamic leaders who were in the trenches and committed members as he noted that all odds were against progressives politicians of the time in bringing AD to winning ways.
He expressed his readiness to work with anyone who will not allow the APC to go the perilous path the AD went in its time, saying he doesn’t make enemy as a politician.
According to him, the Osun Progressives (TOP) deserves support in the pursuit of its objectives in the bid to re-energize and strengthen APC in the state.
The TOP is canvassing the promotion of internal democracy, effective and efficient party management, remobilisation, reconciliation and networking for development by ensuring transparency and accountability in party management.
Other objectives include promotion of equity, fairness and justice within the rank and file of members; ensure level playing ground for members and initiating programmes that will bring members into the fore of party activities.
Ogbeni Aregbesola welcomed the idea of TOP setting up a Board of Trustees, with him as the Chairman, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, Rt. Hon Lasun Yusuff, Rt. Hon. Najim Salam, Comrade Gbenga Awosode as members.
He said the Osun APC Caucus made rational decisions in the choice but urged them to go out and canvass the objectives of having a rejuvenated party for more leaders and members.
“Your objectives are noble, selfless and timely for the survival of our party. It is worth the support of a genuine progressive politician. Count me in: I will support your efforts,” Aregbesola said.
