The Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan,Oyo State capital on Friday confirmed the victory of Hon. Kazeem Olayanju Orelope, member representing Irepo/Olorunshogo constituency in the Oyo state House of Assembly.
The appellate court upturned the September 21, 2019, judgment of the tribunal, which nullified the victory of Hon. Olayanju, saying the Independent National Electoral Commission had no power to cancel elections of any unit and declared the candidate of All Progressive Congress, Mustapha Ajibola as the winner.
Challenging judgment, Hon. Olayanju and it’s party, the People’s Democratic Party approached the appelate court for redress.
The appellate court set aside the lower court judgement, on the ground that the ruling lack merit, and affirmed the appellant, Hon. Olayanju as the authentic winner of the Irepo/Olorunsogo constituency election.
Reacting to the judgment, Hon. Olayanju expressed gratitude to God for His mercy on him, the governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for the support and all that has contributed to his victory, reassuring the people of his constituency that the mandate giving to him could not be taken away by anyone, promising not to renege on his campaign promises.
He however called on his opponents to join hands with him to positively impact the lives of the people.
