*Says the monarch will be greatly missed
Governor Rauf Aregbesola has commiserated with the people of Edo State over the transition of the Oba of Benin, Omo n’Oba Erediauwa Akpolokpolo I.
Aregbesola, in a statement by the Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Office of the Governor, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, described the era of the departed monarch as golden saying he brought glamour to the throne while adding development to his people.
He stated that the monarch lead a remarkable and an eventful life during his long reign in Edo.
According to the Governor, the great monarch demonstrated through his peaceful and development-oriented rule that monarchs still have very important roles to play in governance in the country.
The statement said in part: “The death of Oba of Benin is a great loss to the Benin Kingdom and the monarchical institution in the country.
“During his life time, the revered monarch was an epitome of everything that is good.
“He was a top-on-the-shelf monarch, a cultural ambassador and an advocate of good governance.
“We only grieve now because our esteemed and highly revered Omo N’ Oba passed on when we still need his wealth of experience.
“He will not only be missed by the Benin Palace and his chiefs for his humility and sense of justice but also the entire Edo State for hisdoggedness in the promotion and preservation of the Benin culture.
“On behalf of the people and government of Osun, I express our heart-felt condolence to government and people of Edo State, the Benin traditional council and families of the monarch.”
