The Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has suspended its candidate in the last governorship election in the state, Timipre Sylva.
The party announced the suspension of Sylva, a former governor of the state, in a statement on Saturday.
The statement was signed by the State Chairman of the party, Timipa Tiwei Orunimighe, and Secretary, Daniel Marlin.
Suspended alongside Sylva were Joseph Fafi, the party’s Senatorial Vice Chairman for the Central Zone; Fortune Panebi, the Publicity Secretary; Tonye Okio, the Organizing Secretary; and Edison Sogwe.
They were accused of conniving with Sylva to destabilize the party.
Sylva’s suspension is coming a day after Orunimighe and Marlin were equally suspended by a faction of the party loyal to Sylva.
Panebi signed the statement suspending the chairman, secretary and the Deputy Chairman, Eddy Julius, for alleged misconduct and embezzlement.
He said: “The Bayelsa State Chapter of the party this day, therefore has placed the aforementioned individuals on an indefinite suspension pending the conclusion of the investigations.”
However, on Saturday, the tide turned against Sylva and his group who were accused of anti-party activities.
Sylva was said to be hobnobbing with the Peoples Democratic Party already.
He was specifically accused of visiting a South South governor elected on the platform of the PDP on Tuesday.
He was also accused of commercialising the positions allocated to the party at the federal level and also the formation of a parallel executive at the state level among others.
The statement by the party on Saturday suspending Sylva said in part: “We have tried on countless occasions to advice him on the dangers of his untoward behaviours, but each time we are faced with threats and insults.
“The party will not tolerate acts of indiscipline from anyone no matter how highly placed the individual.”
