Sometimes, we find it difficult to find the right words to express our feelings when we say goodbye to our revered ones like the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheik Busari Suara Haruna III, who died last Thursday in Ibadan at the age of 93, writes ADEOLA OLADELE.
One of the revered Islamic scholars to have ever lived in Ibadanland was Sheik Busari Suara Haruna III. During his lifetime, he lived a life worthy of emulation; he lived in accordance to true islamic doctrines. Late Busari Suara Haruna lived a devoted life to the service of Almighty Allah and to mankind.
Sheikh Busari Suara Haruna died on Thursday and was buried later same day at his Agbeni, Ibadan residence after the Janazah prayers at the Central Mosque,Oja-Oba, Ibadan. He died during an old-related illness at the age of 93.
One of the last public outings of the late Sheikh Busari Suara Haruna was on March 25, 2015, three days to the recent presidential election, at a special prayers where muslims from all walks of life converged to pray for the success of the election. This, no doubt, has shown that the late muslim scholar was a man of peace in all ramifications.
Sheikh Haruna was not only the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, he was also the President-General, League of Imams and Alfas in the South-west, and Edo and Delta States.
Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi described him as a religious leader who used his position as an Islamic leader to ensure cohesion among the Islamic faithful, not only in Ibadanland but also in the entire South-West zone of the country.
The governor also praised the late Chief Imam for his commitment to the peaceful co-existence of Muslims with adherents of other religions in Ibadan in particular and Oyo State in general.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Dr. Festus Adedayo, Governor Ajimobi said: “The death of our father, Sheikh Busari Suara Haruna III, came to me as a rude shock. He will forever be remembered as a religious leader who used his position to better the lots of Islamic faithful and the society.
“The late Chief Imam was a pillar of support to our government. His wise counsels all the time were of tremendous help in the achievements so far recorded by our administration. He will forever be remembered for his fatherly role,’’ he added.
He prayed Almighty Allah to grant his soul Aljanah Firdaus. He also prayed that his family, friends and associates would have the fortitude to bear the loss.
Former governor of the state and Labour Party gubernatorial candidate, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, also described the late Chief Imam as an advocate of peace.
He said in a statement by the Director of Media and publicity for his campaigns, Mr. Abraham Ojo, “ Although I’m still in shock over the death of Alhaji Suara Haruna, I take solace in the fact tat he lived a life worthy of emulation”
“While I was governor of Oyo State, his contributions to the success of my administration as a religious as well as community leader cannot be quantified.”
Late Sheikh Haruna was turbaned as the Chief Imam of Ibadanland in 1995. Within the Muslim Community, he was a force to reckon with. He worked for the peaceful co-existence of the Muslims with other religions adherents.
The late Islamic scholar will forever be remembered as a religious leader who used his position to better the lots of Islamic faithful and the society.
