The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not involved in the ongoing distribution of bags of rice in some parts of the country with his picture embedded on them.
But the former Lagos State governor commended the groups responsible for the initiative.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Tunde Rahman on Thursday, Tinubu said the efforts should be commended, especially in the spirit of Ramadan.
The statement said: “We have seen the images being circulated of bags of rice depicting Asiwaju’s face being distributed across parts of the North.
“While Asiwaju is not responsible for this initiative, he wishes to commend the efforts of the various volunteer groups responsible for this benign act of charity and love for one another, particularly in this Holy month of Ramadan.”
The rice distribution has been trending on the social media since last week, with some commentators linking the initiative to the 2023 presidential race.
There are intense speculations that Tinubu may throw his hat into the ring for the 2023 presidency but he is yet to make his intention known.
