All Progressives Congress National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has told the Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila that his position as Number 4 person in the country is that of authority and responsibility.
Tinubu spoke on Saturday when he received the Speaker, Deputy Speaker Idris Wase and others when they visited him at his Bourdillon, Ikoyi, Lagos residence.
While charging the Speaker to carry his colleagues along, the APC Leader urged him to discharge his position dispassionately and in the interest of the country.
Speaker Gbajabiamila had in his remarks thanked Asiwaju Tinubu for standing by him to emerge first as House member, “not once, twice, but five times” and as House Speaker.
He said being close to Asiwaju was like a school for him and he would continue to draw from his fountain of knowledge.
Gbajabiamila was on a home-coming after his election as Speaker.
He received a rousing reception at the Lagos Airport, as joyous members of the All Progressives Congress gathered to welcome him.
In his entourage were Deputy Speaker Idris Wase, former Director-General of his campaigns, Hon. Abdulmumini Jubril and House members from across the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Gbajabiamila arrived the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in a Nigeria Air Force aircraft with registration number 5N-FGN at 2.50 p.m.
The speaker, who is representing Surulere Constituency 1 at the Federal House of Representatives, was welcomed by fellow lawmakers from Lagos State and others, amidst jubilation by party members.
Among the lawmakers around Jide Jimoh, Lagos Mainland; Olufemi Adebanjo, Alimosho; Rotimi Agunsoye, Kosofe and Babajide Obanikoro, Eti-Osa.
Also on ground to receive him were Alhaji Tunde Balogun, Chairman, APC, Lagos State and Joe Igbokwe, Publicity Secretary, APC, Lagos State.
Addressing newsmen, Balogun described Gbajabiamila as a detribalised Nigerian who had contributed immensely to the nation’s law making processes.
Balogun said: “We are celebrating him today not because he is a Lagosian, but because he has distinguished himself in the national assembly.
“He is eloquent, dedicated, broad minded and a loyal party member who supported his predecessors, Aminu Tambuwal and Yakubu Dogara, to perform their duties effectively.
“That is why majority of the people who supported his aspirations were not even from the South West because they knew him as a detribalised Nigerian.”
He expressed optimism that Gbajabiamila’s leadership of the Ninth assembly would ensure harmonious relationship between the Executive and Legislature for the betterment of Nigerians.
He said: “The lawmakers are to work with the executive arm to deliver dividends of democracy to Nigerians and we are expecting robust legislation to achieve that objective.”
