Assailants Suspected to be Cult Members Kill Man in Ondo

Unknown assailants have killed a man, who was simply identified as Bolaji, in Ijoka Street, in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Many residents, who confirmed the ugly news to WESTERN POST on Tuesday, disclosed that the late Bolaji had gone to attend a birthday ceremony of one of his girlfriends when an argument ensued between him and the assassins suspected to be members of a cult group.

It was learnt that two of the cult group members, angered by the insults passed on them by late Bolaji at the ceremony, quickly left the venue and laid an ambush for him at a relaxation centre close to the street where he was later shot dead.

“Bolaji went for his girlfriend’s birthday ceremony and an argument ensued between him and some group of bad boys who are members of a rival cult group.

“The boys laid an ambush for him and upon sighting him; they pursued him to a relaxation centre near the street where he was shot. He died instantly,” a source said.

The incident immediately caused pandemonium in the area. When our Correspondent visited the street and the relaxation centre, many residents also identified the deceased (Bolaji) as a strong member of the Eiye Confraternity.

The people who claimed to know late Bolaji very well in the street were seen discussing the incident in low tones.

Although, the owner of the relaxation centre was said to taken to his heels after quickly closing the centre for fear of being arrested.

The frontage of the shop was littered with broken bottles and blood stains.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Enouwa, who is in charge of the jurisdiction in Ondo town, Mr. Kunle Omisakin, confirmed the incident.

He said the police were working hard to arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

WESTERN POST also contacted the Spokesman of the Ondo State Police Command, Mr. Wole Ogodo, who also confirmed the incident.

He said, however, that he had not been properly briefed by the DPO in charge of the area.

Cult related activities have been on the rise in Ondo town since last year.
