A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, Nosa Adams has been remanded in Oko Prison on account of attempted murder.

An Egor Magistrate Court remanded the House of Assembly aspirant, Adams and Best Ukposisi over the attempted murder and shooting with the intent to kill of Ikponmwosa Omoregbe, Victor Omotosor and Eloghosa John as a result of the controversies that trailed the party’s ward congress in the local government area.

The magistrate said they should be remanded in Oko prisons till November 19 for mention.

In a related development, Oredo Magistate Court 3 granted bail in the sum of N200, 000 surety for one Rotimi Adams aka Shaba who was alleged to have led suspected thugs to the ‘invade’ the Edo State House of Assembly legislative quarters over two weeks ago that resulted in serious body injuries to lawmakers and destruction properties including exotic vehicles worth several millions of naira.

He was arraigned on a four count charge of wilful damage of government property, possession of live cartridges. He was granted bail by the magistrate, Mrs Mofe Adebanjo and case adjourned to November 17 for mention.

Meanwhile, Mrs Igho Braimoh after listening to submissions from counsels to Nosa Adams and Ukposisi ruled that: “We do not try murder case and cannot try attempted murder. We cannot try the main matter; we won’t grant bail neither! I shall not grant bail, the Registrar of Court, with the police should duplicate the case file and send to DPP for advice.”

Counsel to Adams, Nosa Obaizamomwan had argued the magistrate to use her discretion to grant the accused bail a plea he hinged on Section 118 of the Criminal Code which he said only denies the magistrate of using his discretion when the offence in question attracts capital punishment
