The Management of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State has declared Thursday and Friday as lecture free days to douse the tension that erupted from the auto accident, which occurred along the school road on Wednesday, killing four persons.
The auto accident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday. It was reported by eyewitnesses to have involved a Toyota Camry car and a tricycle also known as Keke NAPEP along Offa/Ojoku Road in Offa Local Government area.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Director Public Relations and Protocol of the Polytechnic, Mr. Olayinka Iroye, and made available to newsmen.
Iroye said the rationale behind the two-day lecture-free was to guide against the likely restiveness, following how the school area was filled with tension after the unfortunate incident.
An eyewitness account had revealed that some students of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, were inside the Keke NAPEP when the accident occurred. They reportedly sustained serious injuries.
Irate mob had burnt down the Toyota Camry car, which was driven by an auto mechanic.
According to the statement, “Subsequent upon the ugly incident of Wednesday 18th November, 2020, the Management has declared a two-day lecture-free from Thursday 19th to Friday 20th.
“Students are expected to resume for lecture on Monday 23rd November 2020.”
The statement further appealed to the staff and students of the school to remain calm, adding that the two students involved in the accident are responding to treatment and are in good condition”.
