Forty-two days after six school pupils of the Lagos State Model College, Igbonla were abducted, the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has urged traditional rulers in the state to use the tools of traditional values to tackle and subdue the menance of Badoo and kidnapping in the state.
Ambode, who spoke at the inauguration of rehabilitated Fire Service Station in Epe, also charged them to find those behind the criminal activities.
While lamenting what he described as an ugly development, which must be urgently addressed, the governor said his administration was more than ever committed to ensure the safety of life and property.
His words: “We will do everything within our capacity to make sure that the city and state stabilize. We know that no amount of expenditure is enough to keep the city safe.
“I want to assure Lagosians that we are doing everything to ensure the safe return of the children. We don’t run the government on pages of newspapers and that’s why we don’t make any comment on the pages of mewspapers.
“We will try as much as possible to make sure that we get back the school children safely, which is more important to us and we will also make sure that we tidy up our water ways to make sure that we support all security agencies to ensuring that the right thing are done.
“We need to come together at this, time to ensure that we speak to our Baales in the communities we are having issues. We must speak with ourselves, because we have intelligence that the things (kidnapping and ritual killings) are coming from within and we need to do something as quickly as possible to arrest the decandence”.
The governor said he did not believe the rumour that those perpetrating evil acts in the Baddo have disappearing skills.
“I don’t think ritual can take place without some people not being behind it. So I challenge all our traditional rulers, the Kabiyesis, Bales and others. We must arrest the situation as quickly as possible and show that traditional value that we are always being known for. We are aready to support you,” he told the gathering.
Meanwhile, the Paramount Ruler of Epe, Oba Kamourudeen Animashaun, has commended Ambode for his developmental efforts, describing him as a proud son of Epe.
The monarch said: “we are proud of you as our son, as the son of the soil that has performed more than our expectations. We thank you for everything you have done. So far, you have changed the face of Epe which has been neglected for a while. From darkness, you have put us into light, we are proud of you”.
