Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, House of Representatives member recently cautioned GovernorAyodele Fayose over his vicious verbal attack on former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari.
He said: “It is unfortunate that some people have to be given a hatchet job to do in a presidential campaign…. It is, of course, most tragic that a fellow Ekiti man, and for that matter the Governor, would be the one to volunteer himself for the dirtiest, ugliest and the most irresponsible part of the hatchet job”.
Sons and daughters of Yorubaland who still believe in the values of the land, which says we should respect elders would no doubt find Mr. Fayose’s recent behavior and utterances reproachable, though in our politics it is allowed.
But the issue that really caught my interest is where Hon. Bamidele said the governor was given a hatchet job to do and that an Ekiti man should not make himself available for the ‘ugliest’ part of the hatchet job.
Some people also see Hon. Bamidele as an hatchet man doing an hatchet job too for his role in the June 21, 2014 governorship in Ekiti State where he was the Labour Party.
Unconfirmed reports had alleged that the lawmaker received some largesse from the powers that be for playing the spoiler for Dr. Kayode Fayemi in the poll, after he fell out with the ex-governor in the build up to the election.
Now if information making the rounds were anything to go by, Hon. Bamidele who recently reconciled with APC leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu after the Ekiti episode have allegedly been given the hatchet job of taking Mr. Fayose on and that his latest condemnation of the governor is the Part 1 of the hatchet job film series.
And more would likely follow.
