Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has described the judgments of the Supreme Court upholding his election for a second term in office as governor of Kogi State as an affirmation of the landmark victory entrusted to him by the people of Kogi State at the November 16, 2019 polls.
Bello polled a total of 406,222 votes against his closest rival, the PDP candidate Musa Wada who polled 189,704 votes with a winning margin of 216,518 votes.
The Supreme Court which last Tuesday the 25th of August heard appeals filed by the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the respective judgments of the Court of Appeal which earlier upheld decisions of the Kogi State elections petitions tribunal dismissing their various petitions against the governor and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a press Statement by the Chief Press Secretary to State Govrrnor, Onogwu Muhammed, Bello said the Apex Court’s decision upholding his victory is an affirmation of the identical positions on the matters taken by the erudite jurists at the Tribunal and the Court of Appeal.
The governor praised the panel of 5 Jurists led by Hon. Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammadu, the Chief Justice of Nigeria which heard the appeals and Hon. Justice Uwani Musa Abba Aji CFR who read the on Monday morning, appreciating the court for her uprightness and erudition.
Governor expressed thanks to the entire citizens of the state for casting their votes for him and joining him to defend same to the end, assuring them that his administration will continue to do more and more for them in line with his campaign slogan.
The Governor used the moment to pay tribute to the late Royal Majesty, Dr. Micheal Idakwo Ameh Oboni II, Attah of Igala who passed on last week. He described the late traditional ruler as ‘a unifier’ who was a great supporter of his administration, a father and a wise counsellor.
The Governor called on the other parties and their candidates to forgo all forms of bitterness and division and join hands with him to take Kogi to the next level.
Simolarly ,the Director General of Bello/Onoja campaign Organisation, Senator Smart Adeyemi has described the Supreme Courts ruling affirming Bello as the winner of the November 16 governoship election as well deserved and victory to democracy.
Adeyemi who is representing Kogi West in the Senate said that it was a thing of joy that the highest court in the land has placed emphasis on the victory of Bello as the opposition have not been able to prove allegations of violence in both the senatorial and governoship elections.
Adeyemi while speaking in Telephone chat who spoke with journalists after the court session said that the All Progressive Congress,APC had always maintained that the allegation of violence was baseless and this was affirmed by the over 73 witnesses Called by the opposition 70 of who said that the election was free and fair
He urged the opposition to call the Governor to congratulate him on the victory as well as join hands with him in the task of moving the state forward to the next level of development.
“I expect them to put all matters of litigation behind them and think of joining hands with Bello in order bring about prosperity in the state” the journalist turned politician said
The two term President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists,NUJ and currently serving as third term senator representing Kogi West asked the opposition to be progressive minded in their criticism and advice to the government of truely they are interested in the prosperity of the state.
According to him,”Bello has embarked on strategic projects of importance that will impact positively on the lives of the people. Such projects as the Confluence State University of Science and Technology and the State hospital would go a long way in adding value to the lives of the people if the state.”
