Kogi State Government has made proclamation proscribing the all activities of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the State owned University, Kogi State University (KSU), Anyigba.
Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello made this proclamation while Speaking to the newsmen shortly after State Executive Council meeting at the Banquet Hall,Government in Lokoja, stated that the ASUU has failed to call off the seven month hold industrial action embarked upon by the union.
The Governor stated that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, KSU chapter had decided to closed down the institution and subjected the students and parents to untold hardship in the past seven months.
Bello explained that despite the appeals by the State government and first Class Traditional rulers intervention to resolve the crisis turned to the deaf hears of ASUU.
“As a government we have no any other options than to announce the proclamation prescribing activities of Academic Staff Union Universit ASUU in Kogi State University . Whereas kogi State respect the right of all the citizens to responsible association and agitation. With the norm of democratic society, whereas Kog State Government is working assiduously to resolve all issues relating to afrequency on information in all categories of civil servants in Kogi State,” He stated.
The Governor also informed the journalists that all the demands especially issues relating to payment of salaries had been met and government is not owing the institution penny as far as payment of salaries is concerned.
“We have six tertiary institutions in Kogi State and having moved round
five of the tertiary institutions agreed and resumed working,but to my dismay, the KSU deferred to resume work having met almost 90 percent of their demands,” the Governor stressed.
The governor therefore called on the Management that any lecturers who refused to resume should resign or assumed to have left the university.
He urged the Management of KSU and the State Ministry of Education to commence the process of recruiting new academic staff in case the ASUU members would not return to class room.
