Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade has defected to the All Peoples Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ayade, who made the announcement on Thursday, during a meeting with six APC governors who visited him at the Government House, said “Cross River needs to connect with the centre.”
The APC governors on the entourage were Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Simon Lalong (Plateau) and Mohammed Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa).
Ayade, a professor of microbiology, has been an admirer of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He was a senator in the 7th Senate, from 2011-2015.
Ayade becomes the second PDP governor to leave the party, after Dave Umahi of Ebonyi, who jumped ship on 17 November 2020.
