A suspected farmer cum ritualist, Segun Bamidele, allegedly killed one Sunday Owolabi recently at Ile-Oja Compound of Rore in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State because he caught him allegedly picking kolanut that fell on his farm is now in police detention in the state.
The incident happened on July 10, 2016.
Bamidele made this disclosure while fielding questions from newsmen when he was paraded at Kwara State Police Headquarters in Ilorin on Tuesday.
“I killed him and severed his head because he was picking kolanuts that fell on my farm land,” he said
Also speaking, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police Sam Okaula said the headless body was found following a tip off after a crack team of investigation officers was detailed to wade into the matter.
He said the investigation led to the arrest of three suspects, which included Segun Bamidele, Musa Aliyu and Kayode Musa.
Okaula said during investigation, Segun Bamidele confessed to killing the victim with a cutlass in his farm at Rore and severing his head, which he took to an herbalist for sale.
The Police Commissioner added that Bamidele took policemen to the bush where he hid the head while the cutlass used in killing the victim was also retrieved.
Similarly, four suspects- Ayodele Amadu, Saidi Amadu, ,Idris Amadu and Quadri have been arrested in relation to the murder of Rohimat Kehinde and Failat Azeez on 12 June 2016 while hawking some items around Igba-Iroko Village along Alapa of Asa Local government Area of the state
Okaula explained that the suspects had confessed to having conspired to commit the heinous crime in order to implicate their eldest brother Ayodele Amadu now in prison.
Ayodele Amadu was alleged to have taken a larger portion of properties left behind by their father, confirming their elder brother Ayodele Amadu is innocent of the crime.
Also, Abdulahi Yusuf, Salaudeen Jamiu and Ahmed Garuba were paraded before journalists for invading Unique Hotel, University of Ilorin Remedial School, Fufu,in Ilorin South Local Government Area.
Other suspects paraded were Muhammed Zulujannin, Tunde Busari and John Akpebe of Eiye Confraternity and Aiye Secret cult respectively on 16th and 13th July 2016. They were arrested during a clash between the two rival cult groups, members of which will soon appear in court
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Police Command has opened the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA)Secretariat to take care of welfare of their wives.
Speaking during the commissioning, Mrs Victoria Okaula, who doubles as the Chairperson of the association, said the Secretariat came to be in order to give the officers’ wives a befitting place for deliberation while their husbands are engaged in ensuring that peace and harmony reign in the state.
