The political situation within the Lagos State chapter of the PDP took a strange dimension this week as members of the party call for its long-time leader’s expulsion over allegations of double-dealing.
Chief Olabode George, a former chairman of the Nigerian Port Authority, and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party, has been accused of working for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress who’s the presumptive architect of the downfall of the PDP from the political center.
Leading the call for George’s ouster from PDP is Mr. Babatunde Gbadamosi, a two-time governorship aspirant on the platform of the party, who alleged that Bode George had been at the helm of affairs of the PDP in Lagos State for too long.
“Bode George is a actively working for Tinubu to undermine the PDP in Lagos State, they’re very close political associates but disparage each other in public to avoid suspicion,” he told WESTERN POST. “We cannot continue to have people like him at the helm of our party’s affairs in Lagos State because he’d wasted too much time and has never delivered.”
Another member of the party who also raised allegation of treachery against Bode George is Mr. Adewale Olabanji, a leader of the party in Shomolu Local Government Area of the state.
“Chief George,” he said, “masterminded the misfortunes of the PDP in this election cycle by forcing his candidate on us who was a Tinubu man by proxy just because he was promised five commissionership slots, a piece of land around Lekki and N250 million.” “Enough is enough.”
Reacting to the allegations on behalf of George, Chief Ola Apena, Deputy Chairman of the PDP in the state, said the allegations are both baseless and spurious.
“Gbadamosi is still a relatively young man and we believe he still has a long way to go in his life. He’s trying to put himself into a crisis he doesn’t have the capacity to manage.
“We in Lagos PDP still believe that Chief Bode George is our leader and will still remain our leader. He has our strong support notwithstanding what these charlatans say against him,” he added.
