The rumour that a 400-Level student of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State allegedly impregnated the wife of the Vice Chancellor of the university has spread like a bush fire in Harmattan season.
But it turned out that it is what it is: mere rumour, unfounded rumour. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joshua Olalekan, dismissed reports that his wife was impregnated by a student as false. He had harsh words for perpetrators of the lie.
Reacting to the viral report, through his twitter handle, Prof. Olalekan lamented that the report had embarrassed him and ridiculed his family.
“Twitter is a humorous/good place only strained by the gullibility of people to quickly accept & spread fake/cheap news (intended to misinform&for publicity) It is absolutely wrong. As partners in progress, no man/Institution must be ‘pulled down’ in the name of rts &trends,”he said.
Authorities of the faith-based university, owned by the Nigerian Baptist Convention, had on Monday shut down the school and evicted all students from the school.
The students had since vacated the school. On Tuesday, the university management was billed to meet to take a decision on the resumption date but there is yet no communication on that.
