British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer, Anthony Joshua, on Sunday morning proved his worth as heavyweight champion at SSA Arena, Wembley in London.
He knocked out his mandatory challenger, Kubrat Pulev alias Cobra, in Round 9 after pounding him in previous rounds.
AJ dominated the entire nine rounds. From the second round, Joshua began pummelling Bulgarian Pulev who had threatened to uppend his boxing career in the pre-match tantrums.
The victory has set the stage for the much-anticipated big-money heavyweight unification bout between Joshua and Tyson Fury.
Fury refused a ringside seat at the AJ-Pulev fight. He has one of the heavyweight important belts while AJ has three.
AJ, 31, put all his three heavyweight belts- IBF, WBO, and IBO- on the line against 39-years-old Pulev.
Joshua weighed 241 Kg, four more kilograms than he was in his last fight against Andy Ruiz Jnr in Saudi Arabia.
In a surprising bout that proved bookmakers wrong, the Mexican, Ruiz Jnr, dropped AJ four times before eventually knocking him out in the first fight.
Pulev suffered two knockdowns in Round 4 and in one of the occasions turned his back while AJ was reigning punches at him.
However, he could not survive the heavy punches in Round 9, eventually falling down. And then the curtain was drawn on the epic fight.
Both boxers started on a cautious note in the early rounds with body jabs and Joshua recording vital points.
At the end of the fight, AJ dashed out of the ring to greet Floyd Mayweather Jnr, his friend and fan.
