The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has picked former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, as his running mate ahead of the 2019 general elections.
It has been reported that the PDP hierarchy were undecided between the South-West and South-East, with respect to the zone the position should be allotted.
The major candidates rumoured to be favoured for the vice president position were former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, President of African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, former Managing Director, Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON), Dr. Mustafa Chike Obi, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and Peter Obi.
Obi is a renowned economist who was known to be so frugal about the management of affairs of Anambra State when he was governor.
Atiku made the choice a day after he had a meeting with former President Obasanjo in Abeokuta where the duo resolved their differences and Obasanjo endorsed him for the presidency, describing him president-to-be.
