Nigeria’s Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina has been re-elected as President of the African Development Bank.
He was re-elected for another term of five years this morning at the ongoing AfDB Board of Governors’ meeting at Abidjan, Cote “Devorien capital.
Adesina was the only candidate for the election, despite initial attempts by the United States to block his re-election.
President Muhammadu Buhari and some African present and former leaders had backed his candidature.
Formerly Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture, Adesina had used the bank to fund development in parts of Africa and to ensure that the bank catered to the needs of the region as opposed to those of some foreign investors.
