The Independent National Electoral Commission has postponed the bye-elections in six senatorial districts and nine state constituencies including Lagos East Senatorial District and Kosofe 2 State House of Assembly Constituency slated for October 31.
According to INEC, the postponement is due to the security situation across those constituencies in the wake of the #EndSARS protest, which has degenerated into an orgy of destruction and looting.
INEC chairman Mahmud Yakubu said it’s in line with its powers in the constitution to postpone the election where there is a threat to security.
The Lagos East Senatorial seat became vacant following the death of Senator Bayo Osinowo while that Kosofe State Assembly 2 because of the death of Hon. Tunde Braimoh.
