Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi has won Saturday’s governorship election in Oyo State. With his victory he has broken the second term jinx in the state, something that eluded the late Chief Bola Ige, Lam Adesina, Rashidi Ladoja and Adebayo Alao-Akala among others.
He won in 18 local governments, while former governor Ladoja’s Accord Party won in six and Alao-Akala’s Labour Party in six local governments.
Of the total 807,718 votes cast, Ajimobi’s All Progressives Congress polled 309, 020 votes representing 38 percent of the votes, Accord- 233, 543 (28 percent), Labour-155, 681 votes (19 percent) and Peoples Democratic Party-68, 493 (9 percent).
PDP’s governorship candidate, former Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin, had on Saturday night conceded defeat.
The election came against the backdrop of the collapse of the opposition alliance.
