President Muhammadu Buhari and All Progressives Congress governors are locked in a crucial meeting on Monday afternoon at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
The meeting, according to sources, is over the crisis in the Edo chapter of the party.
Senate President Ahmed Lawan who met President Buhari at the weekend in Abuja had said the president would soon intervene decisively in the crisis which had pitted the party’s chairman against Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Among the governors sighted at the Villa a short while ago were Kebbi State Governor Atiku Bagudu, who is the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Jigawa State Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar and Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong among others.
Although Governor Obaseki had dumped the APC for opposition Peoples Democratic Party where he is a t present prosecuting his governorship ambition, the remnants of his allies left in the party are still stoking crisis in the APC.
Executives of Oshiomhole’ ward in Etsako Local Government had said they had reinstated him to the party, but the pro-Obaseki chairman of the ward has kicked against it, saying the APC chairman remains suspended from the party.
Meanwhile, the APC governorship primary election is going on smoothly across the 193 wards of Ed State.
The party was observing the protocol put in place by Governor Obaseki, ensuring that not more than 18 persons were participating in each of the ward at any point in time to ensure physical distancing.
Collation was ongoing at about 2 pm on Monday at press time.
