It’s official! One of the original leaders of Afenifere and a devoted Awoist, Papa Ayo Fasanmi, is dead. He was 94 in September last year.
Papa Fasanmi was a Senator on the platform of UPN in the Second Republic. He hailed from Ekiti State.
One of the true disciples of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Senator Fasanmi died on Wednesday night after a brief illness, a family source told WESTERN POST.
He said: “Papa suffered from age-related illness. He was admitted to hospital two weeks ago during which he was put on oxygen.”
But, according to the source, Papa recovered a few days ago before his situation deteriorated following which he later died.
The news of his death is yet to filter in, but many will thank God that Papa lived to a ripe old age.
President Muhammadu Buhari had extolled Pa Fasanmi’s courage in standing for democratic governance and fighting for democratic ideals and values.
