Senator Buruji Kashamu has died of COVID-19, WESTERN POST learnt this evening. He was 62 years old.
Kashamu represented Ogun East in the Senate between 2015 and 2019. He reportedly died at the First Cardiology Consultants in Ikoyi, Lagos on Saturday.
The news of his death first emerged from a tweet by Senator BEN Bruce-Murray on his twitter handle this evening.
Senator Bruce-Murray said he lost a good friend in the late Senator.
Kashamu played a background role in the election of Governor Dapo Abiodun in the 2019 governorship poll. But in recent times, he turned his attention to his pool betting business.
He had a running battle, moving from court to court, in order to avoid being extradited to the United States over drug-related charges.
Senator Bruce-Murray said: “I have just lost my good friend of forever to #COVID19. Until his death, Sen. Buruji Kashamu and I were inseparable. He died today at First Cardiology Consultants, in Lagos. May his gentle soul rest in peace. I pray his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear this heavy loss.”
