A granite-laden truck on Monday crashed into a building and crushed a woman, her daughter and a motorcyclist to death, at Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
The spokesperson, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta.
Akinbiyi noted that the truck was coming from Ago-Iwoye Quarry axis, when the driver lost control of the wheels due to speeding and crashed into a roadside building at Imepe area of Ijebu Ode, killing the three persons.
It was reported that some of the victims were trapped under the ill-fated truck.
Akinbiyi explained that the incident occurred at about 2:40pm, and blamed it on speeding and dangerous driving on the part of the driver.
He said driver of the truck and the motor-boy had bolted to avoid being lynched by the mob.
“The truck loaded with granite was coming from Ago-Iwoye Quarry axis inbound Ijebu-Ode, around Lagos Garage axis, at Imepe, when the truck suddenly lost control, due to over speeding and reckless driving, and entered a building by the roadside, killing a motorcycle rider and a woman and her daughter, standing in front of the building at that time,” Akinbiyi said.
The TRACE spokesman said the corpses of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ijebu Ode.
He commiserated with the families of the deceased and cautioned truck drivers yo avoid speeding, reckless driving and ensure their vehicles are properly maintained, in view of its attendant consequences.
