A 33-year-old bricklayer, Solomon Dada, on Monday appeared before an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl.
Dada, who resides at Iyana Era in Ijanikin near, Lagos, is facing a count charge of rape.
The Prosecutor, SP Soji Ojaokomo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 29.
He said that Dada had carnal knowledge of the girl without her consent.
“The accused lured the girl into an uncompleted building at the back of his house and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her,” Ojaokomo said.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
Section 137 provides that any person that has sexual intercourse with a child is guilty of felony and liable to imprisonment for life, reports the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, however, granted the accused bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until May 15 for mention.
