Budget Padding: Buhari Meets Dogara, Says He Won’t Resign

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday met the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.

Dogara arrived at the Villa around 2 pm and immediately went to Buhari’s office for the meeting. the meeting lasted 30 minutes.

It was the first time President Buhari was meeting Dogara over the allegations of budget padding levelled against the Speaker by former Chairman Appropriation Committee of the House, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, his former ally.

Though details of the meeting were not known but it may have centered around the allegations of padding of the 2016 budget levelled against the Speaker, his deputy, Lasun Yusuff, and two others.

Speaking with State House Correspondents after the meeting, Dogara dismissed the allegations, saying he was not worried by it.

He said apart from being the Speaker of the House, he is a lawyer and that there is no offence like padding in the country’s constitution. He said he won’t resign as speaker because there is no reason for it.

Hon Jibrin had alleged that Dogara, Lasun, Chief Whip Ado Goguwa and Minority Leader Leo Ogor heavily padded the 2016 Budget and also cornered N40billion of the N100billion Constituency projects of the House in the budget.
