Former Chairman Appropriation Committee of the House of Representatives, Hon Abdulmumin Jubrin on Monday made good his threat, submitting petitions against Speaker Yakubu Dogara and 12 others over allegations that they padded the 2016 Budget.
Jubrin submitted the petitions at offices of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Offences Commission (ICPC), Department of State Security (DSS) and Police Force headquarters.
Those petitioned included Deputy Speaker Yusuff Lasun, Chief Whip Doguwa, Minority Leader Leo Ogor and nine others.
Jubrin who was removed allegedly also over alleged budget padding alleged the four officials allocated about N40billion of the N100billion Constituency projects for the House members to themselves
Speaking with journalists after submitting the petition at the ICPC office in Abuja, Jubrin said he had had a meeting with the commission’s officials and that he would give them maximum cooperation and information to commence prosecution against the House leaders.
He said if the officials were prosecuted and sent to jail, it would send a powerful message to every Nigerian and the international community about the seriousness of President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade.
Meanwhile, members of the Transparency Group of the House have said budget padding has been with the National Assembly since inception and said getting to the bottom of it by prosecuting those behind the extant case would be good for the country.
