President Muhammadu Buhari has begun a short vacation from Friday, February 5 to February 10, 2016.
While President Buhari is on vacation, the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, will perform the functions of the President.
In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution, President Buhari has dispatched a formal notice of his vacation to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The failure then in 2010 by a sick President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to give a letter of notice to the National Assembly and empower his then deputy, Goodluck Jonathan had thrown the country into a constitutional crisis.
It was doused when the National Assembly passed a Doctrine of Necessity which empowered Jonathan to act in the absence of Yar’Adua.
Jonathan became Acting President. Yar’Adua later died and Jonathan became substantive president.
