Muhammadu Buhari was inaugurated as the new President of Nigeria at exactly 10.49, 32 years after he was shoved aside as military head of state by the General Ibrahim Babangida military junta.
He was sworn in by the new Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmod Muhammed.
His deputy, Vice President Namadi Sambo, had been inaugurated a few minutes earlier.
With their inauguration, the sun had had set on Jonathan’s presidency.
The colourful ceremony was done at the Eagle Square. In attendance were leaders of many African countries and former Nigeria leaders.
