Buhari ‘ll Not Marginalize Yoruba, Says Political Scientist

Adeola Oladele, Ibadan –

A political scientist and former Special Adviser to Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State on Political Matters, Dr.Gbade Ojo has said that the government being run by President Muhammadu Buhari would not marginalise Yoruba people as was the case in the immediate past administration of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

While reacting to an allegation on Sunday during a local radio programme in Ibadan, Dr. Ojo stated that President Buhari made most of his appointments from the northern part of the country owing to the special offices they required.
Ojo, a political Science senior lecturer at University of Ilorin and a one time head of department of political science in the institution, disagreed with the suggestion by a group that the appointments were lopsided, stressing that he would be vindicated when the appointment to federal cabinet is announced.

He assured that fairness, equity and justice would be employed by the president, pointing out that the president would never base any of his decision on ethnic and religious considerations “because he is a patriotic leader to the core.”

Dr. Ojo explained that it was however the discretion of the president to assign portfolios to whoever he so appoints as ministers, adding that it was unfortunate that not all decisions in that regard may be clear to all members of the public.

The political philosopher called on all Yoruba leaders to unite, emphasising that in the system being operated, the race cannot be sidelined in the scheme of things.

“We need native intelligence to work successfully to get our rights in the present scenario. The MPS from the North are more than those from the South West. Yoruba NASS members should cooperate with one another at this crucial period. We have suffered enough,” Ojo counselled.

He noted that the ugly development in the National Assembly with regard to the emergence of principal officers was unhealthy but assured that the party leaders would holistically resolve the conflict.
