President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday held a private meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Lagos.
The meeting was on the sideline of the All Progressives Congress campaign rally for its governorship candidate in Lagos, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode.
Buhari, former Lagos governor and APC National Leader Bola Tinubu and Governor Babatunde Fashola among others were at the rally to rally last-minute support for Ambode.
The duo of Buhari and Obasanjo reportedly met at the Presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport for almost an hour without any of their aide present.
The meeting was held shortly before Buhari and others headed out to campaign in the Orile area of the state.
A member of Buhari’s entourage told Punch Newspapers that: “Gen. Buhari and former President Obasanjo were in the inner lounge of the presidential wing of the airport where they held a secret meeting for almost an hour.”
“The National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Senator Chris Ngige and many of us were made to stay at the main lounge throughout the meeting. We do not really know what was discussed but it must have been very sensitive.”
After former president Obasanjo became estranged with his political son, President Goodluck Jonathan, he had moved on to support APC and General Buhari in the race.
Obasanjo had since lost grip of the Peoples Democratic Party in his Ogun homestate as most of his associates were pushed out of their positions of influence.
