An offer of debate from Channels Television, Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria and Arise TV, has been rejected by APC presidential candidate, General Muhammed Buhari, his campaign office said Monday.
Buhari questions the credibility and neutrality of the debate organisers. Exactly the same reason he cited for rejecting a similar debate last week.
On a breakfast program on Channels TV monitored in Lagos this morning, Mr. Dele Alake, the director of media and strategy of Buhari campaign, disclosed that the major opposition party candidate will not be participating in the debate already scheduled to hold tomorrow.
President Goodluck Jonathan’s office has, however, disclosed that he will honour the debate invitation.
This is coming barely 4 days after General Buhari declined to participate in the debate organised by the Nigerian Elections Debate Group, a non profit public policy think tank that has been organising presidential debates since the country returned to civilian rule in 1999.
