President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness and regret over the accidental bombing of a civilian community in Rann, Borno State, by the Nigerian Air Force, engaged in the final phase of mopping up insurgents in the North-east.
The accidental discharge had left over 100 refugees dead and many more injured, according to a report by AP.
In a statement by Presidential Spokesman Femi Adesina, President Buhari condoled with families of the dead and wished the wounded divine succour, leading to full recovery.
He also sympathized with the Borno State government.
Adesina said the President pledged federal help for the state government in attending to “this regrettable operational mistake.”
He pleaded for calm, even as he prayed God to grant repose to the souls of the dead.
