Ogun State police command on Friday said it has arrested a 17-year-old girl, Seun Adekunle of 32 Agura road Abeokuta for faking her own kidnap.
Seun, according to a statement from the spokesman of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi was arrested alongside her boyfriend, one Basit Olasunkanmi aged 25-year-old of No 4, Ogun Radio, Abeokuta for colliding with the girl to arrange the fake kidnap.
The duo were arrested following a report by the mother of the girl, one Bukky Adekunle who reported at Enugada police division, Abeokuta on the 4th of June 2020 that she was sent to Lafenwa market since Monday,1st of June 2020 and did not return.
She stated further that she was however surprised to receive a call from someone two days later who claimed to have kidnap the girl and demanding for the sum of N500,000 ransome if she ever wanted to see her daughter alive.
She added that her caller also warned her not to make the mistake of reporting to the police if she still ever wanted to see her daughter alive again.
Acting upon this report, the DPO Enugada division, SP Baba Hamzat quickly led his detectives on a technical and intelligence-based investigation which led them to the hideout where the girl and her boyfriend are hibernating and pretending to be with kidnappers. They were promptly arrested and brought to the station.
Police stated that the preliminary investigation revealed that the boyfriend who is a butcher was the one who brainwashed the girl and lured her into the devilish plan because he needed money to settle some only God knows the problem.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
