Members of the Oyo State Butchers
Association in Ibadan North Local Government
area have resisted the order of the Oyo State
Government to relocate to the newly
constructed abattoir at Akinyele Local
Government, saying thet the status quo should
remain.
The Chairman of Butchers Association in
Ibadan North Local Government, Alhaji Ganiyu
Olobo while speaking with journalists at the
weekend on the planned action of the state
government to relocate them to the newly
constructed abattoir at Amosun Village in
Akinyele Local Government stated that there
are series of clashes between Yoruba and the
Hausa butchers which he said, could disrupt the
peaceful co-existence among the two
communities in the state.
Similarly, Alh. Olobo stated that the distance
to the main town and non completion of some
basic infrastructures in the abattoir are some of
the reasons for their resistance to the order
issued by the state government to allow them
to remain at Bodija market.
He, however, hinted that all the over five
thousand members of the association have
unanimously agreed to remain at their initial
location in the interest of peace and progress of
the state.
