CCT Grants Saraki Bail on Personal Recognition

Senate President Bukola Saraki appeared before the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Tuesday and pleaded not-guilty to the 13-count charge of false declaration of assets preferred against him.

He said he discharged himself creditably as governor of Kwara State.

After arguments and counter-arguments, the tribunal granted Saraki bail on self recognition.

The tribunal subsequently adjourned proceedings till October 21, 22 and 23.

Saraki had appeared at the tribunal after his attempt to stop his trial failed at the Court of Appeal.

He was accompanied to the tribunal by Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, former Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State and several Senators.

Meanwhile, Saraki has blamed some traducers for his ordeal, saying he is going through the trial because he is Senate President.

“As I stated while taking the plea in the case, I reiterate my belief that the only reason Im going through this trial is because I’m Senate President.

“If I were to be just a Senator, I doubt if anybody will be interested in the assets declaration form I filled over 12 years ago.”
